As part of their 2014 Summer Cashback scheme Canon UK are offering various rebates on several cameras, printer and lenses. Normally I don’t pay that much attention to what’s on offer as it’s rarely something I want. However, this time around one I notice that of the lenses is the fabulous EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM lens.

I already own this lens and it’s a stunner. Before acquiring this, the highly rated EF 70-200m f/4.0 L IS lens, or my EF 100-400mm f4.5-5.6L IS USM lens were usually in my camera bag. Now the 100-400mm is seldom used and I traded the 70-200mm against a second 5D-mk-III body last year. I’ve found the EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM matches the EF 70-200m f/4.0 L IS in almost every department; it’s just as sharp, very easy to handle, well balanced, has the extra reach and seems a perfect partner for my EOS 5D-mk-III. It’s a lens I never leave home without; perfect for portraits, wildlife and landscape. Sure, it’s not the fasted lens around, but it’s 4-stop IS works great and I’ve got many great images from this lenses hand held and in low light too.

Canon are currently offering £100 cash back on the EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM lens, and with the best online prices around £1199 this makes it a pretty good deal.
